Five Powerful Eczema Care Tips

Eczema is a broad term for a skin rash. Skin becomes very itchy and irritated, as well as red and inflamed. The more you scratch it the worst the condition becomes. It is estimated that nearly 15,000,000 people in the US have some type of eczema. While it's most common in babies, it frequently occurs in adults as well.
There is no known specific cause for eczema. It's believed to be the result of a variety of factors. Thankfully the condition is not contagious, so there's no worry that can spread to other people. Below is advice on eczema care.

Since eczema is irritated and inflamed skin you should limit your contact with bothersome materials. Some common things that can bother your skin are soaps, cleaning solutions, household cleansers, gas, detergents, and other abrasive chemicals. If possible wear gloves when handling these materials. Wash your hands afterwards and dry them thoroughly.

If you have eczema on your hands wear gloves when working in water. Plastic or vinyl gloves work well, and cotton gloves underneath will soak up any sweat. Take breaks occasionally and take off the gloves to prevent excessive sweat. It's a good idea to wear gloves in the wintertime outside. The dry air can make your eczema worse.

The clothing you wear has a lot to do with your eczema care. Avoid synthetic fabrics and wool. Avoid anything that is itchy. Cotton and cotton blends will feel much better on your skin.

When bathing use only mild soaps like Dove. Uses small amounts and keep the water temperature warm to cool. Avoid hot water. A good soak in the tub for 15 or 20 minutes will allow your skin to absorb water. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel and apply a moisturizer. This will keep your skin moisturized well after the shower or bath is over.

This last tip is common sense but it can be difficult to do. Don't scratch or rub the affected area. Doing so will only worsen your eczema. You can break the skin which allows bacteria in. This can lead to infection. Keep your skin moisturized with a non-alcohol-based moisturizer will lessen the itchiness.

Eczema can be tough to live with but you can experience relief. By following this advice for eczema care your situation will improve. For more information on relieving your eczema please check out the links below.
