A Look at the Skincare Cosmetics Industry and Anti-Aging Products

The skincare cosmetics industry is not well regulated, particularly in the United States. There are thousands of ingredients that have been banned by the European Union, but most of them are still being regularly used by cosmetic companies in the US. Some of the most hazardous products are those are advertised as aging skincare products.

Research has proven that there are safe natural ingredients that really have a beneficial affect on the skin's health and appearance. They do fight the things that cause wrinkles, sagging and other signs of age. They can even repair damage that has already occurred.

But, most companies in the skincare cosmetics community do not make use of those ingredients. Instead, they continue to include the same ineffective ingredients that have been used for generations.

In many cases, the only active ingredients in anti aging skincare cosmetics are sunscreens. While it is true that the sun is a big contributor to the signs of age, there is no reason to believe that sunscreen can repair damage that has already occurred.

Most of the sunscreens on the market are largely ineffective. Some of them may actually contribute to the DNA damage that leads to melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer.

Scientists have shown that the sunscreens oxybenzone and benzophenone penetrate into the skin's cells and damage DNA strands, when they are exposed to UV rays from the sun. That makes them photo-carcinogens.

The studies were conducted because the scientific community was concerned about their potential to cause cell mutations that could lead to cancer. They were concerned because the ingredients are derived from benzene, which is known to cause cancer in humans.

The most effective sunscreen for anti aging skincare products is zinc oxide, but it does not disappear. It is found in some of the better women's makeup.

Some of the solutions that are frequently recommended for aging skincare are simply too harsh. The skin's layers become thinner with age, as skin cell production decreases. Because of that, the skin is more easily damaged. Using mild acids and exfoliants can cause redness, itching and irritation, as well as underlying inflammation, which degrades collagen fibers.

The best anti aging skincare cosmetics, cleansers and creams contain natural anti-inflammatories like the protein keratin. In its active form, the protein keratin inhibits inflammation by blocking the production of molecules that cause inflammation. It has also been shown to stimulate the production of new cells and fibers. Basically, it de-ages your skin.

Another safe and beneficial ingredient is coenzyme Q10. It has been shown to prevent and repair damage caused by the sun. It reduces wrinkles and improves the skin's moisture content after only six weeks of use.

The skin is a rejuvenating organ. It can repair itself, if given time and the proper tools. Every 4-6 weeks, all of the cells in the epidermis are completely replaced. The process just gets a little slower as time goes by. Now that you know a little more about the skincare cosmetics industry, you might change the way that you look at the solutions in your bathroom.
