Learn the Basics of Oily Skin Care

Not everyone is blessed with normal skin. Oily skin causes pores to clog and as a result, acne develops. Though oily skin has its own advantages such as it's less prone to aging, most people think of oily skin as liability because of its direct association with breakouts. But that's not the end of the world. If you have oily skin and are suffering from acne or blackheads, there are steps you can take that are likely to help improve your condition.

The excess oil released by overactive oil glands onto the skin must be removed regularly or the pores will get clogged and acne will develop. Therefore, people with oily skin are advised to cleanse their face twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Some might think the more often they cleanse, the less likely their pores will get clogged and as a result, less acne and a better skin. Unfortunately, that's not the way the oil gland works. Excessive cleansing will make the skin dry and trigger the oil glands to work harder to replenish the loss oil, causing the skin to be oilier than before. So don't cleanse more than twice a day or it will cause more harm than good.

After cleansing, apply toner to the skin to remove those last traces of makeup from your skin. Toner also helps reduce the size of pores though that's not its primary function, which is one of the most common misconceptions about toner. To apply toner, simple add a generous amount of toner to a cotton ball, and sweep over your face and neck. Don't miss the crevices around the nose.

Some people believe that oily skin doesn't need moisturizing because the skin is already producing excess oil. The fact is that without adequate hydration, the skin will produce even more oil to compensate. What you should do instead is use oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and your oil glands will become less active.

Also, drink more water to keep your skin hydrated. For healthy skin, drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Water also helps flush out toxins.
