Dire Warning Made Me Turn to Natural Skin Care

Never again will I use anything but natural skin care products on my face and body. A long, long time ago I was invited to the home of a friend who was battling breast cancer. Many of the guests were Mensa members, very intelligent people and one of them was a pharmacist.

Something that pharmacist said stayed with me, even though I didn't pay that much attention to it back them. I was young and foolish, so what can you expect. What he said was like a dire warning to all women about cosmetics. He said some day the truth would come out, that the chemicals in many of these cosmetics were the cause of cancer. He said whatever you put on your face and body ends up working its way into your bloodstream.

I was young and naive back then and thought I was invincible. Luckily, nothing bad has happened to me. I consider myself extremely fortunate, as I didn't heed his warnings. I continued to use cosmetics and perfume with abandon. In those days I didn't give natural skin care a thought. I don't even know if natural skin care products even existed.

Interestingly, I was quite health conscious. I ate well, exercised, got good sleep, did all the things we're all supposed to do. But there was one area where I was reckless as could be. I worshiped the sun. A day at the beach was absolute paradise. I also spent many hours sailing across the Long Island Sound with no sun protection. Add hours of tennis out in the broiling sun and you've got the perfect recipe for looking like an old hag well before my time.

Now, though, that I'm older and wiser and more aware, I try to stay out of the sun. And there were plenty of lines cropping up on my face and neck that I wanted to get rid of, but not with plastic surgery. That's why I was trying every new cosmetic that came on the market.

Many products were disappointing, and way too expensive. I had no choice but to become an avid student of cosmetics and makeup and what goes into these products. I've learned that companies use small amounts of the good ingredients and lots of filler. These fillers do nothing for your complexion. The
chemicals and fragrances, including some harmful oils, can make you sick and clog your pores in the process.

It's so much better to use natural skin care products that don't have chemicals in them. Chemicals to keep creams and lotions from going rancid. I've done plenty of research and found companies with a conscience. Of course I have my favorite, and I'm having great results.

My face looks fresh as a flower. My unevenly colored complexion is now radiant and all the same tone. One of the products I use has a whitener which fades away spots and makes everything lovely, without irritating my ultra sensitive eyes. And no wrinkles. Can you imagine? It's a miracle.

If you are a woman who loves cosmetics, as most of us do, please check ingredients and do a little research. Just as Red Dye 44 became the dreaded ingredient in lipsticks, something in your daily beauty regimen could be next. Keep in mind that putting something on your face, body and hair is the same as eating it. So be just as careful about what goes on you as what goes in you. Be good to yourself. Look for natural skin care products. You'll be glad you did.
