Secrets to a Healthy Tan For Summer

We lighter skinned people like getting our suntans, especially during the summer. Don't you just love that nice natural bronze color we get from sun tanning? It's a ritual of summer, at its best. Lazy day's, strawberry daiquiris, warm breeze, and a nice tan. Getting a natural tan is a sign of being healthy and attractive. It's not a wonder why we all rush off to the beach at the onset of summer with our best tanning or browning lotions and laze away on a beach towel for hours on end. We 'sun-worshipers' love that healthy tanned skin that we can flaunt all day long.

A perfectly tanned body improves the personality and texture of your skin; at least we all like to believe. However, it is not recommended to be in direct sunlight for a long time, especially without a good tanning or browning lotion. Excess exposure of the skin to sunlight can actually damage the skin and is the leading cause of skin cancer around the world. Moreover, in countries like Australia, the atmosphere does not filter the sun rays completely as the ozone layer in the atmosphere is rapidly depleting. Of course, it is the ozone layer that filters the harmful UV rays of the sun that can damage your skin beyond repair.

So what does a tan actually mean?

A tan refers to exposure of the skin to the rays of the sun for a considerable amount of time. The UV-B rays of the sun encourage the cells of the innermost layer of the skin, known as the epidermis to produce more melanin pigments. These pigments are then on their way to the outermost layer, known as the dermatitis, which are tanned by the UV-A rays of the sun. As a result vitamin D3 is also produced naturally under the sun. The vitamin also helps protect the bone and also protects us from diseases like osteoporosis. The direct rays of the sun also make the immune system stronger against the invasion of germs and increase the body's overall physical immunity. It has a positive effect on the functioning of the heart and improves blood circulation. Common skin diseases like acne, psoriasis and neurodermatitis can be treated with UV light. There are just some of the many positive effects that the sun offers in the form of its UV rays. A good tanning or browning lotions will speed up this process and require less time under the sun's harmful UV rays.

It can be difficult to find the best tanning or browning lotions. There are millions of them out there and they all have their unique spin on their products. There are certain things you can look for that will determine a quality product:

• make sure it is made with all natural ingredients,
• contains no stains, bronzers, or self tanning ingredients,
• has Aloe which helps soothe minor burns,
• and skin moisturizing components so your skin doesn't dry out in the hot sun.

You should take the advice of experts if you would like to go for natural suntan. Different skins react differently to sunlight. An expert opinion should be sought, especially in the beginning. Do not overdo a suntan, as excess exposure to the sun's rays can prove to be harmful to your skin. Wear a good suntan lotion when you go out in the open during summer. Always where a sun block appropriate for your skin time, and use suntan products that support usability with sun blocks. Do not sunbathe for more than once a day. Going to the beach or laying out in the sun once or twice a week is enough to maintain a good tan on the skin. Tanning in summer proves to be very beneficial as it prevents skin fatigue, prepares your skin for the long summer months ahead, builds a natural protection and produces a nice natural tan.

So all your sun worshipers, enjoy the sun this summer, but use sensibility, don't overdo it, and always see your doctor every tanning season and get a full body melanoma screening. Make sure you use a good tanning or browning lotion, and stay hydrated. Happy tanning!
